Finally, it's happened;
I like the last part, which says departments will be 'required' to adopt Open Source when there is no significant difference in cost due to it's flexibility. The full thing can be found here at the government website |

I've tacked on ChrisCF's posting to the list in the main text (towy71) This months Cardiff meet had an average turn out, but was rather lacking in Chrises. Myself, Gedge, Chris K, Chris CF and Paul all arrived in Central Bar around 1900. I arrived a little late to enter into the debate about whether or not to organise the LUG and what the LUG could be doing in the future, continued on from the mailing list. Paul then outlined the advocacy work he's doing with his local school of which he is a governor. He's been providing the teachers and students there with an install of Edubuntu to see how they would get on with linux in the class room. From this we went on to talk about groupware in linux and the various ways of interfacing with existing systems (eg exchange) or the possibility of dropping exchange altogether. Chris and I both recommended running a 'proper' mailserver with something like Squirrelmail, which isn't the prettiest of interfaces but is quite stable and featureful. After this we got onto the current trends on the internet, FAIL and twitter. Most of us had varying opinions on both ranging from apathy to positive and negative views. For the record, I have an irrational hatred of it, however Gedge thinks it goes well with kitten pictures on icanhascheezburger.com Finally I had a bit of a rant about password managers and the lack of a decent one and we then discussed the possibility of running some lightning talks in Cardiff and also the possibility of trying the Cardiff meeting at a weekend to mix things up a bit and maybe see some different faces there. Well I think I've probably managed put down some of the things that we talked about at the meet. If I've missed anything, let me know. |

To quote from the website: Introduction Our petition aims to unify the voices of concerned Europeans, associations and companies, and calls on our politicians in Europe to stop patents on software with legislative clarifications. |

Sam posted the below to the list so I thought it should be here too. Thought it might be handy to post what was discussed at the Carmarthen meet, feel free to add the bits I missed or forgot. Daniel sent more stuff so I've added that too |
