Six regulars and one new face turned up last night :D Amongst matters discussed were:

  • Which distro for older machines
  • Knoppix 6 and installing on a pendrive
  • which search facility would sort which email format
  • Koffice v OpenOffice

Relative merits of mbox vs maildir format, potential migration from 1->2 for Beagle searching

Volume management (brilliant!)(towy71 missed that)

Knoppix 6.0 demo on Xp'd (noodled) eeePC (including lightweight desktop)

Latest A48 tragedy

how rubbish are the Coen Bros films (very)

web viewing patterns and site usage studies

KOffice

live Knoppix install to USB card

and some stuff for my LoveFilm account (Volver, Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden, and Armstrong & Miller)

gnokii and other phone utils for Linux

I did demonstrate an Eeepc running WinXP that just would not log in either a user or administrator in safe mode or anything. It ran Knoppix 6 from a usb pendrive, and I installed that to Samrad's Google business card usb drive.

Edit samrad: also Dave charged my phone with his handy USB pocket battery and we also discussed First KMH computers in carmarthen and the possible genus of daniel's  plant photo.
